One of the things that is really notable about Moscow and yet not many people outside Russia know about, is how gorgeous the Moscow metro is.

These photos? That’s what the metro stations look like.

Yeah.

They’re called the “People’s palaces of Moscow” or else “Underground palaces,” and they were built during the Soviet era on the Communist idea that art and beauty should belong to the people rather than only being available in the houses of nobles.

These photos show just some of the metro’s attractions. There are many more mosaics, statues, etc, placed throughout.

And the metro is always this clean.

In addition to being beautiful, it is incredibly functional. It gets you pretty much everywhere in Moscow, and the trains run at intervals of every three minutes or less. At peak times, they run every 90 seconds. You never have to worry about missing a train, because the next one will come almost immediately.

Not always of course. In the late evening or early morning hours, you may have to wait as long as five whole minutes for a train. They’re also super easy to navigate.

We Russians are pretty proud of our metro system.

If you thinking taking seflies is immature and stupid, just get out okay.

All through my adolescence I fucking hated how I looked and hated people taking my picture and that’s no way to live because then you look back and realize you have no pictures of yourself.

So if girls today have enough self esteem to take a picture of themselves and post it for their friends, that’s awesome. So much better than them never wanting their picture taken.

Real talk though.

"I hate it when I see all those selfies, because it just makes people look so full of themselves."

There is such a strong correlation between selfies and confidence. There is a such a strong connection between finding the courage to post even more selfies and gaining confidence. I’ve seen it happen with people I know. I’ve lived it over these last few years.

So when an asshole stands up and says “but it makes you look so arrogant,” with respect, they can sit the fuck down. Kill the idea that teenage girls - who are blamed for the selfie ‘phenomenon’ - need to be humble. Kill the idea that self-hatred and insecurity are a “normal” part of adolescence.

Kill the idea that a consenting woman should be ashamed of her own personal selfies - even if they are nude - because “it’s arrogant” to be proud of your body, to want to share an honest image of your body with someone you love.

People should love themselves. Teenage girls are especially allowed to love themselves. Friends are allowed to encourage and love each other’s confidence. Confidence is not toxic.

Selfies can heal someone’s perception of themselves, and some asshole’s complaint is that it’s annoying? Boo hoo. Lemme find my tiny violin, I’m sure I dropped it around here somewhere.

I need movie recs

Leaning towards drama/mystery/crime/adventures. Something with a good plot twist maybe.

I’m in love with this campaign from the SPA (the French equivalent of PETA, but only taking care of pets, I guess)
They’re launching an adoption campaign, and they have several posters, all with the same slogan “At the SPA, everybody can adopt”
And then
THEN
They “came out” (hihi) with this poster, showing two men and a cat
Which is a deliberal wink to the fact that the French law still forbids gay couples to adopt—a single person can adopt, but not a gay couple which is outrageous now that they can get married
And I love that they don’t care about the “Manif pour tous” and other gay haters

1. Lay on the floor of your shower until you can breathe again. Water will always love to love your skin.

2. Start writing with the intention of filling up one page. Write until your pen stops working.

3. Reread a book that once made you cry. Learn something new on every page. Notice how different chapter make you sad. Notice how the book didn’t change and grow; you did.

4. Sleep with your windows open. You can hear both the rain and boys drunkenly singing Frank Sinatra on their deck. Both are equally good.

5. Don’t forget that honey will always taste sweet, but the best way to eat it is off your fingers, laughing.

6. Remember that, sometimes, getting out of bed is enough.
